What type of beans are these?

Postby Chasdev » Thu Oct 21, 2021 4:40 pm

My wife picked these up on a family reunion in Mississippi, the elderly gent who gave them to her did not know what they were, said he had never seen anything like it.
Can anyone identify them, each individual bean is one inch long.

Looks like they may be giant pink sword beans...now to see if they are edible.

Plants can grow up to 30 feet long, come from Africa, the wife wonders if they were brought over by a captured African slave since she got them in rural Mississippi..
They are supposed to produce an impressive floral display as well.
Edible but better as less mature.
That spread of giant bean pictures was a eye opener, wonder why Americans don't have them on the menu.

I planted 2 short rows of Pintos in early September, we might get 3 or 4 quart bags out of it; they sure are good
