Building my first smoker(s) (New photos added)

Postby Huppe » Mon Aug 24, 2009 2:10 am

EDIT: Change of plan. We are building smoker out from a scratch and not use these at this time.

I'm moving from Germany back to Finland. Luckily I just found 2 stainless steel tanks from our summer cottage. They're gonna be smokers "soon". They are old water tanks from a boat.
Here is two bad quality photos of them:

REMOVED PHOTOS

I have to go back to Germany soon but when I come back to Finland you'll hear more. Meanwhile I have to make some design work with this. If there is good DIY instructions please let me know.

There's some example what they could be:

Sorry I was away for some time because of our relocation to Finland. Anyway I just came back from our summer cottage and the dimensions are:

45"x22"

And the other is quite similar:

45"x23"

Cool Huppe! Good size for a back yard (garden) smoker.

We just came from our summer cottage with the first tank. We left it to a workshop that is doing all the work. Now we just have to design it.
Any ideas?

We were lucky that we found a third, smaller tank that is good for fire/coals and can be attached to a bigger one.

Thanks. I already checked that while ago but there's been a lot of progress now. That helps me a lot.

I took another tank to a workshop but after they saw it we decided to make brand new one and not to use that tank. I guess it was too "rough" for workshop and is not good for their reputation in case somebody will see that when it's ready
I think I just cut it in half and make grill from it. Or something.

Anyway I'm waiting for the drawings for the smoker now. I've printed LOT of photos from this forum to help with this. Let's see what's coming.

I just came back from workshop and saw the cad drawings and they looked great. I had to make few small changes and soon I'm going to show them in here too. I hope I can get a few comments from you...

Can't wait for spring!
