Buying a new smoker????
I plan on getting a new smoker here in the next couple weeks(this week end hopefully). Just wondering what you guys would recommend? I was looking at a Oklahoma Joe at Academy, was wondering if it is worth the $350. You guys have any other suggestions? Thanks

I think a couple guys here use them. I hear they are a good buy.

To be brutally honest... IMO, that one is too small. You can cook great Q on a small pit, but those little offsets require a lot of attention. I think that one is the 16" model, they also have an Old Country (?) 20" model for a couple hundred more. If I was going small offset, that is the one I would look at.
Have you considered a Weber Smokey Mountain? It would be around the price of the small pit. How about building your own UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker)? No real skills needed to build a UDS and the only tools you really have to have is a drill motor and some wrenches.

Good advise. If you buy the 16" model, it will be a very short time and you'll be wishing you had bought the bigger 20" model.

This is my longhorn deluxe still the same builder. I paid 650 but I love it. I have pushed it to the limit and never let me down. I use it alot and i mean alot. 3 times a week even in the winter time. The only reason my deluxe cost more is the fancy stainless steel but I bought it to build around it when i make my backyard kitchen. Here are a few pics of capacity

Welcome to the forum. I have the small Oklahoma Joes and it works for me. Mine was givin to me for Christmas a few years ago by my folks. It works great, I just want a bigger one now. Here's a pic of mine before, and after I loaded with 2 packages of pork briskets on it. It was full to the brim but it gets the job done.

The oklahoma Joe is the first pit I bought (5years ago) i still cook on it to this day and love every minute of it. Great pit, heavy duty. Worth every penny, good investment.

I was also looking at that one. My wife is buying it for me for my B-Day. So, this one would be a better choice? Thanks for all your help guys. I have a lot of reading to do on this forum....
