Hello! Glad to join the forum. I found the forum while on the Suckle Busters website. I am a backyard bbqer living in San Antonio, TX. I cook on a Baby Stump and a Texas Pit Masters pit. I have been smoking meat for about 3 yrs and have really gotten into it the past year or two, a buddy and myself are planning on competing in our first bbq competition in Floresville this June. Question, what percent of bbq contest participants do you think make their own rubs? Also, any thoughts on which rubs you guys like best for brisket, pork ribs, and butts? Looking forward to getting to learning from some of you more experienced smokers.

Re: Hello
Welcome to the Forum. I make my own rubs mainly because I like to and have the time. Can't speak for anyone else but I hear those Sucklebuster rubs are top notch

Re: Hello
Welcome. As for the number of competitors that make their own rub I'd say it would be very high but probably not static and they'd be forever refining. I'll go on to say that there are those that use a commercially available rub but probably modify it some.
If you are just starting competition I'd recommend that you use whatever rub you like best and see how you do.
