Hey from up north

Postby CowboyRich » Sat Feb 28, 2009 7:23 pm

Howdy folks!

I decided to come out of the shadows and say hey. I am new to the smoking game and am looking to develop some skills. The Texas Panhandle is my stomping grounds and I look forward to getting to know everybody.

I have been drying out meat and burning wieners on a gas grill for many years now and not been satisfied with it. I figured "there's gotta be a better way" so I decided to sniff around the world wide to see what was out there, long story short, her I am.
From what I have learned so far, a drum smoker is the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to dive in, so that is where I plan to start. I have the drum located and am in the research stage to determine the best build for me.
So, to answer your question, soon as the drum is smoking, It'll be my first (smoker virgin).

Can't go wrong with a UDS type drum smoker. I've got two and love 'em! My WSM is getting lonely since when ever I don't have one of the big pits fired up, I usually opt to use the drums!

Good luck with the build and if you have any questions, ya know where to get the answers (or at least opinions!).
