Hey James, I live in in the HEB area and have been "smoking stuff" most of my adult life. I've been using a 55 gallon drum smoker, mounted horizontally and cut in half, typical 55 gallon drum smoker. It's on it's last legs, rusting out at the bottom, (maintaining 250 - 275 has been difficult lately) so I'm having a 4ft trailer mounted smoker built this month.

When I'm not smoking boston butts or briskets, I'm most often racing a bicycle somewhere in TX. So, yeah I'm a good'ole TX boy with shaved legs. :D

Being born in Kingsville TX and raises here in Dallas, barbeque is in my genetic make-up. Anyway, hoping to learn a few things here and maybe compete in a competition or to.

Hey Funky..glad you made it over here. I am an old bicycle rider myself. In fact I got a good one sitting in the Rubbermaid store house as we speak. Gonna drag it out and ride it one of these days. Read in Popular Mechanics one time that is the most efficient form of travel on earth. Runs on a cup or two of pinto beans and can go 60 or so downhill..or faster than that if you fall off the hill etc. I love bicycles..cept for them big gangs of yups wearing the wood pecker helmets and run Stop Signs in big groups on the weekend. Hope you don't do that.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I hear ya bigwheel. I try to be pretty concious of traffic, but I wouldn't say I've never rolled through a stop sign. When a training ride with the team becomes a unofficial race, nobody wants to back down. Anyway, I've got a birthday party coming up and I'll be doing the barbecue, it's what everyone in my family usually wants, so I'll try and nurse the old smoker through, if the new one isn't ready in time. I'll be sure and take some pics and post. I'll probably do a couple of pork butts, a brisket, and a few racks of spare ribs. This maybe for another forum index, but do you guys have a favorite rub recipe? Who likes dry and who likes wet?

On this particular forum a person had best like Suckle Busters Rub. Its the best I ever had. It's dry I think. Been so long since I had any free samples its getting hard to remember..sniff sniff.
