Need Expert Opinion on Smoker

Postby Keasteregg » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:17 am

Hello TBF members!

I'm am new to the site and have been referred by one of your moderators.

I'm trying to sell my dad's smoker that was passed on to me and I am having a really hard time, because I think I may have it overpriced. I used craigslist as a gauge to help me determine a price and tried to go WAY UNDER all the others for a quick sale.

I also posted the smoker on Texas Hunting and Fishing Forums, but nothing. So if you would kindly help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

In your professional opinion, how much should I ask for this smoker. Below are the details and I will follow up with the photos (as I am new to this site, I haven't figured out how to post images yet).

7 ft long barbeque smoker on trailer with tail lights, new temperature gauge, hitch lock, Goodyear Eagle 225/70 R15 tires. Excellent condition - great buy!!!

To see photos, view the listing on craigslist at:

Thanks again for your help!

I'm no expert on trailer mounted smokers but I know a few things about sales. Price something too low and folks will think somethings wrong with it and pass on it. Too high, they pass on it. You need to find the market clearing price.....maybe check on E-bay?

I'm sure some of our members will have a price point to offer, sorry that I'm not more help.

Mobile Grill

Postby Keasteregg » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:44 am

Maybe I should rename it to mobile grill?

TBBQF Member "barton" in our Horse Tradin section is looking for a big pit...I would send him a PM and see if he is still in the market.

I looked at Craigs list and the smokers listed there looked over priced and very used (my opinion). I wonder what a big propane tank like yours would cost by all itself? Maybe that would be a good asking price to start.

BTW, I am far from an expert, but I answered anyway.

Several of our members are custom trailer pit owners, maybe they can provide more insight...when you settle on the sales price make sure to post an in Horse Tradin'.

Maybe title the add "Pig Pickin' Machine" or "hog Roaster" that doubles as a grill? Assuming you can fit a pig in it. 8)

Minus the firebox we would build and sell a pit like that new for approx. 1300.00 to 1750.00. So if I was to sell it you need to think about what its worth to ya. A new tank of that size costs approx 700.00 to 750.00 then the cost of the trailer I would have no idea. And then there is some labor added. So I would think somewhere in the area starting 1200.00
It's not burnt till I say so
