Using ring burners for hotplate

Postby Wanderer73 » Mon Nov 12, 2018 4:05 am

Hey everyone,

I'm in NZ and have just purchased a food trailer. It has ring burners currently installed and I was wondering if it was possible to slap a hotplate over the top and use it 'semi' effectively - thoughts?

Context: We'll be grilling chicken patties, chicken fillets and toasting buns on it. I'm aware it'll have hot zones and cold zones that will have to be learned. The gas rings are around 7" in diameter.

I have a hot plate for my portable Coleman stove that makes it in to a griddle. I have cooked burgers, bacon, and eggs on it.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

I use a Lodge griddle plate over a bed of coals on my grill. Seems having a gas ring burner would allow for a little better temp control. I do wish I'd found a larger griddle to start with. So my advice would be to buy as large a griddle as you can afford and/or fits securely over the burners.
