Need pit in Waxahatchie end of April

Postby Revill » Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:55 am

It's official. My daughter has announced that she's getting married April 28, in Waxahatchie. Why Waxahatchie? She has a lot of friends there. Austin would be more convenient for me, since it's home, but it's her wedding! She gets to pick.

She's asked me to provide "something smoked or grilled". After discussion, seems that two dozen or so spatchcocked chickens would fit the bill. There's only one problem with that plan: I don't have a grill big enough to cook a couple dozen chickens at one time.

So I'm asking for the Wisdom of the List. Does anyone know of a place where one can rent a serious smoker in the Waxahatchie area? It doesn't have to be a rental, but as a newbie on this forum asking to borrow a pit is a whole lot, I think. Suggestions?

Yeah, I'm in Austin. Doing the wedding here would be too easy. The Daughter wants to be wed in Waxahatchie, and I'd like the meat fresh, so it really needs to be prepared in Waxahatchie. I'll look at the Waxahatchie Craigslist though. Hadn't thoght of that.

I'm not really equipped to drag a monster smoker around. The wife's minivan has a trailer hitch, but it's not very big and neither is the minivan. It probably would work for hauling the smoker to the park, but not for hauling one from Austin to Waxahatchie.

Just spit balling a bit here but for the price of a rental and the required fuel for "properly" cooking chicken you could buy 3 or 4 USD's that would cook that amount. Sell raffle tickets to the guests to get rid of them afterward and you might end up getting a free one out of it.

how about  cooking your yard bird in Austin then transport to Waxahachie in an ice chest well insulated and hot they should keep and be ready for action when you arrive?
BTW welcome to the forum, from another former bubba lander....

Tooner, got more pictures? I actually just found out I have a cook potentially bigger than my rig in early April. Might be a customer....

What's the weight on yer cooker?
