Howdy,
I've been scouring the forum for awhile and have decided that it's time to try and build my first UDS but I've got a question that I hope someone can answer. I know that most people just burn the drum to remove the paint inside and out, but since we are under a burn ban here. I'm wondering if I had the drum sandblasted would that take care of everything for the inside or would I still need to burn it out and take a wire wheel to the whole drum? The drum I picked up is a food grade that had juice in it. I appreciate any insight ya'll can provide.
Thanks

Re: UDS build question
So if I understand what you're saying is that food grade barrels will not have had the inside painted? Every food grade drum I've looked at has had the inside painted, any ideas where I could find one here in the DFW area?
Thanks
Thanks

Most food grade drums are coated with teflon on the inside...hence build your grill and burn it out anf your good....I have found them several places around DFW, you may need to google food grade drums....there are alot of cookers here that use them....one may have a hook up for drums...
try this bro...

Re: UDS build question
This is the place I picked my drum up from.
www.texasbarrelsupply.com
They are listed as FSP food grade drums. Were lined with a plastic liner but were removed but looked to have a yellowish colored paint on the inside. I just had it sandblasted inside and out and picked it up yesterday.
Thanks

Re: UDS build question
Buy a weed torch from Harbor junk(Freight) and burn the liner out then you will have the torch to light the pit when the build is finished,
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.
