Anyone ever ate at the places in Lockhart? They say its the "BBQ Capitol of Texas". Would like to take a trip down there for some grub.

I don’t like paying for what I can do at the house. It’s not worth a special trip, but if your in the area, it’s an experience. Like nothing we got in Cen-tex, that’s for sure.

I like going places and eating just to get a idea of what other people are doing. Plus it would make for a nice trip for me and the wife.

I Have eaten at Smitty's and Kreutz's several times, the q at both is not very good. The homemade sausage at Smitty's in very good...Dont go to Luling City Cafe cause it sux!!

The best q IMHO is at Blacks or Taylor city cafe...they are both adequate for commercial q

City Market just down the road in Luling isn't bad, either.

I think its worth the trip to see some of those joints - I've had great Q at all of them at one time or another and ok Q some of them on occasion. Blacks and Smittys seem to be the most consistent. Its been a while since Ive been to Kreutz's. Thumbs up on the City Market too.

I visited Kreuz once. The BBQ was VERY salty and tough. The only thing good was the sausage. Skip Kreuz if you ask me...

Though not in Lockhart, I'd skip Louis Muller's in Taylor. After all the build up about how great it is, wifey and I made the pilgrimage a couple of weeks back and between us ordered a little of just about everything on the menu. Everything, from the 3 kinds of sausage to the brisket to the ribs was a great disappointment, except her beef. Sure, a place can have an off day, but on every item?

The lemonade was tasty, though.

I've eaten at all thee places in Lockhart. In my opinion Blacks is the best out of the three. There isn't a huge difference between Smittys and Kreuz.

I have been to lockhart several times and I say that Smittys is the best all around . Kreuz is good but their brisket is consistently dry. The best brisket I ever had in Lockhart was one time on a sunday at Blacks, it was tender and very flavorful. I think because of the way those places cook their meat you can have great days and some so so days.

I highly recommend Chisholm Trail BBQ. It's worth the trip from Austin. You can keep Kreutz's. Sheesh!

Only been through there once - stopped at Blacks and we really enjoyed it.

We will stop at one of the others the next time we are in the neighborhood.

I have heard from several folks that the sausage at City Market in Lulling is the best and worth picking up a bunch to go but closed on Sundays.

I ate at Kreuz's not too long ago and it was terrible. The food was actually ok, although, they were out of brisket and had only 1 side to choose from (german potato salad).

The service was terrible. The staff was about as un-friendly as could be. We drove by Smittys and Blacks and in the end, we wished we would've stopped at one of those. Lesson learned, but I won't be making a special trip to Lockhart just for bbq again.
