Want to get into Comps

Postby RED&BLACKSMOKE » Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:27 am

I am interested in maybe starting a cooking team.... i live out in Lubbock so we only have a few cookoffs close by. My questions is does anyone cook the IBCA events around this area? I have only done one cookoff in my life and that was Possum Kingdom a couple years ago and somehow we won first place in brisket. I really want to get into again. Any advise or suggestions are welcomed

Thank You

IBCA and LSBS both have events in and around your area; Best advice I can offer is jump in with both feet, both are excellent organazations.
Check out the up coming events and see what will work best for you.

I know a guy out in Lubbock heck of a guy just to far for him to drive to Fort Worth area or he would be on my team. If you are interested in meeting him let me know.

Go be a judge before you compete....as I found out this weekend what you and 99% of the public think is good is not what the judges are looking for. You'll be shocked at the taste of a 1st place brisket in competition.

Out of all the stuff I judged saturday I didnt have any bad bbq, some of it was just better than others.Out of 50 odd teams thats pretty stiff competition.
