My ribs sucked

Postby Burnt Food Dude » Mon May 28, 2007 8:54 pm

I did a comp in Westmont IL over the Memorial Da Weekend. My ribs came in dead last... 29  out of 29

If my ribs got into the top 10 I could have been Reserve or GC. Ribs are usually my strong suit! I should be happy with 3 top 5 finishes. Here's the results.

Sorry to hear about the ribs, BFD. Do you know what happened? Was it a bad set, or maybe they were lookin' for somethin' different than your grub?

Congrats on the other top 5 finishes.

Use Gator's Pork Rub next time for the Ribs, you'll be rolling in $$$$ :D

Great over all places in the other categories!

Sounds like you had it all going on...you sure they didn't get yours switched with someone else?

By any chance do you know if church of swinetology (John Bovinette) was there?

BFD, Did you take a sample taste of your ribs? Did you do anything different this time? That is weird if you are strong in ribs how they would have done so poorly. If I change something during the contest I usually pay for it with a low score. :(

Ribs being switched? I really couldn't say. After you turn them in they take them in back and the KCBS reps change the numbers. Yes, Swinetology was there. They were vending.

Yes. It was there very first one. The Village of Westmont, the Lions Club, the Jaycees, Westmont park District and the people of Westmont were really great. Saturday night was a People's Choice Chili Contest. It was raining all night. The great citizens of Westmont were out in the rain sampling chili. Some had umbrellas, some rain coats and some in shirt sleeves getting soaking wet. The best part was they paid $5 to sample chili! I could go on about how cooker friendly this comp was.

Yes, I did taste samples. Everything was great I figured if not a 1st place I'd be in the top 5 or at worst the top10.

The only thing is that we bought a new WSM the weekend before and assembled it 2 days before the comp. The ribs were cooked on the new WSM. We figure it didn't know how to make winning meat. OR Its a jinxed cooker.

:? Hmmm... Trying to get my contest secrets?

It involves olive oil, foil, Wolfe Rub, honey, brown sugar and a variartion of the 2-1-1 cooking method.
