Carne Guisada

Postby ChileFarmer » Wed Sep 09, 2009 7:55 am

My verison, CF :D

CARNE GUISADA
(Meat With Gravy)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 1/2 lb. round or sirloin
steak, cut in small cubes
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 Tbsp. cooking oil
2 Tbsp. flour
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. cumin powder
1/2 tsp. Mexican oregano
1/2 bell pepper, cut in strips
1 whole onion, diced
1/2 c. canned tomatoes, mashed (or 1 can Rotel tomatoes)
with juice
2 1/2 c. water

Season meat with salt and pepper. Brown well in hot oil
over medium heat in heavy skillet, stirring constantly (about 5
to 7 minutes). Add flour, brown 2 minutes longer. Add remain-
ing ingredients. Bring to a boil, lower heat, cover and cook
18 to 20 minutes, stir occasionally. Serve over rice.

I like to use the ro-tel mexican festival tomatoes, about 1 table spoon of Chile powder, fresh garlic and lots of onion. Forgot to add that pork, chicken and Shrimp work good with this dish also.
OK, get over it, you lost. God bless America

Thanks, CF! Sounds really good. Another "to do" item added to the list.

Going to have to give it a try. Most of the one Ive seen takes a long time to cook.
