Steak Sauce

Postby DATsBBQ » Thu Jun 07, 2007 12:26 pm

I'm gonna try this recipe I found in Insiders Recipes Master Collection
http://www.e-cookbooks.net

1/2 cup raisins
2/3 cup ketchup
1 tsp season salt
1 tsp chili powder
4 oz applesauce
2 Tbsp Italian dressing

Put all ingredients is a blender, blend on high for 2 minutes or until smooth.

It's a "clone" of Heinz 57 Sauce. Since I don't want to give Mr. Kerry any of my money I've stopped buying Heinz products but do miss this one.

Made up a batch tonight. Looks like 57 sauce, and is thick enough but a little more sweet than the original. I added a splash of apple cider vinegar, think that it may come around after it sits in the fridge for a day or two. The Italian dressing I used was home made also. The rest of the stuff was store bought, and I didn't use Heinz brand ketchup, I used hunts. :D

I would say it is against the law in the south to use Heinz, BUT the majority in the south is Democrat. That is an entire other debate.

I do not use Heinz products myself due to the above reasons, but I love the taste on french fries. I wish they would change the name from steak sauce to something else. A good steak does not need sauce. I will try this recipe, Thanks
