Cool! I like the idea of a square pit! Take a look at this rough sketch I drew up while riding on an airplane once... The file date is from 2004, so I've been thinking about it for a good while.. I just don't have any fab skills...

Mighty close!!! I have tried to draw something like this on Paint, and
it never seems to look anything like that. Great drawing.

DJ you do know that the one in the pic is not one I built, its just the style I'm going for this time.Below is the pic of the one I just finished last month.

BTW I ordered my plate yesterday and is supposed to be delivered tomorrow afternoon or Monday Morning. I am biting at the bits, this pit will retire me or it will put me in the grave lol. I should start it Monday night, and pics will show the progress.

If this one gets off the ground in a respectable time frame without any major glitches, I have some Ideas in the works. Could be beneficial for ya. We'll talk this weekend

Is this pit going to be double walled and insulated?? Looking at the pic you posted, the cooking chamber kind of looks like it is. :D

Glad you liked it. 8)

I'm leaning that direction If I can swing it, at least the main cooking chamber . FYI this pit will have a 30x30x24 firebox, 30x36x78 main, 30x30x48 warming box. it will have 3 levels of cooking grates, (slideouts) Will be sepeerate slides for doors, but basically I will have 29"x77" times three somewhere around 60 square ft of cooking space on main.

Now if your gonna insulate the cook chamber, it only makes sense to insulate the firebox too!

I'm an insulation convert now... and I know you don't have to ask why...

Although, only 1 of my 1000 or so cooks has needed it!
