New "Superior Smokers" Cooker

Postby Finney » Sun Jan 04, 2009 9:53 pm

My new toy. A "Superior Smokers" insulated cooker. :D :D :D

This is a prototype model that I am cooking on to test and evaluate. I picked it up New Years eve and brought it home. Holds heat real well. Looks to be a good cooking machine. If anyone is interested, I can tell you what is changing for production. First 5 production units are being built now by the company.

It's Joby Stanaland's new company. Many of you will remember Joby from his days as the 'voice' of Stumps before the Viking buyout.

That looks like a great cooker! Looking forward to hearing your review. Any idea of the MSRP on that thing?

Their website should be up soon. But until then, send your email address to BBQCarolina(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll get it to Joby so he can contact you about specifics.

Looks good for that style of smoker. Guess Viking is okay with such a similar replica?

I have no idea.
But since the Viking model and Stumps are based on a cooker called the Lanny Q... I don't know how much they can say?

Their wedsite is 'partially' up now if anyone is interested. They are slowly loading content.

Cooked up some baby back ribs and chicken on the new cooker. The only thing that I wasn't trilled with was the ribs themselves. They were enhanced and tasted 'hammy'. Nothing to do with the cooker... I was trying to save a buck and bought them on sale at Harris Teeter.

BTW: after I finished cooking I let the cooker go for a while, but I put probes on 4 of the 5 shelves. There was only a 7* difference in the temps from the hottest shelf to the coolest. Pretty good in my opinion.

Hi Mel... Been wondering where you had been. Started to put out an APB over at the Primo forum. I was actually gonna tell Joby that he needed to contact you about covers. I'm sure my wife would rather mine not be in the garage. LOL And it can't stay out without a cover. :?

I don't care for those pumped ribs either... But they do look great! Chicken too! Looks like the new cookers work as well as the older/original etc.
