The Great Debate-Chili-Beans or No Beans

Postby OSD » Thu Nov 13, 2008 7:38 am

People seem to have strong feelings on what a good bowl of chili is. :D So, let's hear what everyone thinks makes that perfect bowl of chili. :D

Well, I don't think beans or no beans is what makes a great chili. :D I think it's the right blend of spices and peppers that give it that perfect taste. :D JMHO---YMMV

This pretty much depends on what part of the region you are from...and also personal tatse...Here in Central Texas it is a sin to mix beans in a pot of Red.....now I have seen beans on the side so it is offered but not all mixed in the same pot....just my .02 ...since I cook comp chili... :D

Personally I think that is a silly debate.

I normally prefer mine with beans, but I like chili either way.

I agree Jim. I usually add beans to my chili, (Brooks chili beans) since that is how I was taught and grew up on. But it is finding that right blend of spices, just right for you and your family that makes it good. I figure the addition of beans just help give my kids and myself some needed extra protein and fiber, which I know we run short of! I also add some short spaghetti or elbow macaroni; again, just the way I was raised...

I have always added beans to my chili, and I agree the beans don't make the chili but I use 3-4 different kinds in mine.

Either way for me - usually, if there's no beans, I like it when it's just cooked, and everything is fresh.
If I make it with beans, I also add other things, such as chopped onions, bell peppers, maters, etc. That's my stew chili. My all time favorite though, is no beans, cubed meat.

No beans. Being from SE Texas, I have on occasion put a scoop of white rice in my bowl chili if it is runny.

I like beans in my chili. Grew up with it that way and still make it that way...
