Fish Tacos

Postby bowhnter » Mon Nov 26, 2007 7:57 am

I had fish tacos at a restaurant once  , swore I would never again.
Well, once my wife started talking about it, sounded pretty good and worth another try.

Fried up some Talapia and placed on a tortilla shell (to me the crunchiness of the fried fish made it)

Added on some homemade pico di gallo consisting of red onions, tomatoes, avacado, jalepenos, and a little garlic.

Topped with cheese

and enjoyed with a home made bottle of Sauvignon Blanc

The thin Tilapia that can be folded right in your tortilla makes a nice choice of fish to use.

Mike, I am like you. Tried the tacos in a restaurant once, never again. But I must say yours sure look good. Maybe frying is the answer. CF

You can never go wrong with Tilapia! Those taco's look mighty tasty! I love to pan fry tilapia with panko bread crumbs and parmesan. That would be good on a taco as well!

I love the fish tacos, those look great and Tilapia is the fish of choice! Try the fish tacos with a good flat bread or pita next time.

Every time I went to California I heard about the fish tacos but always found something else to eat.... Finally I tried one and low and behold it wasn't bad but didn't resemble Tex-Mex much like one might expect.
Anyway I like fish and this sounds good Thanks Mike.

We do fish tacos about 6 times a year. The Mrs likes Halibut for fish tacos, but for what ever reason the things are pricey.

I'm the only one around here that'll eat them. I haven't used talipia - sounds good. Got to give that a try. Yours looked good.

Hey James... nice score on the Mahimahi :) One of the better eating fishes in Hawaii. Caught them all the time off the islands.

Interested in how you prepare them in a smoker.

I picked up a bottle of Hawaiian style rub, tried it on grilled steak and porkchops and we liked it. Also seasoned a rack of reebs and bbq'd them in my practice run last weekend. The taste was there but it didn't look as good as the ones you guys and gals post. I tried to keep the "Kila Imu" at 200 to 225. Is that too low?

Hey Honu! I've never smoked MahiMahi, I was going to grill it for the tacos. I've eaten plenty of it, but this will be my first time cooking it...

Thanks James. When I smoke some salmon I'll include some mahi and also some halibut from my Alaskan trip. Don't know for sure if those fishes take kindly to smoking.

Have a great weekend... keep on Q'ing.
