A yearly tradition in our family before Christmas is making ginger bread.
Wife makes the dough one day. Next day everyone helps flattening the dough and stamp out ginger breads. Great family time with jokes and lots of fun and eating raw ginger bread dough is like candy.
Hope we can keep the tradition as long as the kids stay in our house.

Very cool Joe. Great family time.
One of my daughters asked about making gingerbread houses the other day. Might have to do that.

I hope you have the opportunity to do that. Gingerbreadhouse is cool. Nothing better than doing things as a family, spending quality time together and creating great memories. If it can contribute to creating a few traditions they can bring along to their kids in the future it's even better.
What I've also learned is what you do doesn't have to be expensive or fancy. Just doing something together is enough. A few years ago we went on a long, great holiday trip. When we came home I took the boys for a trip with the canoe and the tent for two days. In the autumn I asked what was the best thing they did this summer. Both said the canoe trip. The easiest cheapest thing we did that summer.
After finishing the gingerbreads tonight I had to walk the dog. I asked my oldest son who is 18 if he wanted to come along, which he did. 25 minutes walking and talking just him and me is precious and something I probably can't value enough.
