First tri tip

Postby bsooner75 » Sat Jul 06, 2019 8:27 pm

Did my first tri tip with decent results. Used Hardcore Carnivore Black rub and reverse seared in my Weber. I’ll do another as it was pretty good. Probably stick to SPG next time.

Also cooked a couple of pork tenderloins with Sucklebusters Hogwaller Honey. No brainer combo with a little cherry smoke thrown in.

We might just be related....

Looks awesome sooner, I was joining you tonight regarding a first Tri Tip. The skies open up just in time to put the kabash on me but I just improvised and cooked in the end of the garage ...
Your cook looks delicious !!
Did you have trouble at first finding the grain pattern after it was cooked ?
I think I studied this one like Ralphie looking at that Leg Lamp ...

It took a bit but I figured it out.

Curious, how long did yours take and what internal temp did you pull and wrap it ?
I'm as foreign to this as you are.

Again, nice looking meal !

Wow the black rub is really dark. The results I really like the looks of. Tri TIL is one of my favorites. Decent marbling and is pretty forgiving.

WV - that’s funny! A rain storm rolled through while I was cooking this one as well. I just rode it out and luckily it was over quick. As far as IT, I didn’t wrap but moved it to sear at about 125.

The rub did what it was supposed to do as far as appearance. The activated charcoal in it is made to give a super dark bark. I just don’t think it lended a whole bunch flavor wise. That’s why I figure SPG on the next go.

Thanks y’all!

Oh and yes! I studied the grain on this thing harder than I studied for any test back in school…not that I studied that hard back then

Its all good tho, and I'm glad I'm not the only one that's had a hard time figuring out where to slice without mucking it up..

S&P is definitely a winner but I really like the dark color and crust that you achieved here.
