Bending that steel was 100x harder and more time consuming than i thought it would be. In the process i killed my 5.99 hazard fraught grinder from last year, then gave a higher end hazard fraught grinder a death in litterally about 3hrs of purchase. The replacement had lived so far. The weight of this box is just rediculous. Right now im trying to figure out the hinge setup. I cut the doors so they fit inside the box. Plan to run angle around the edge to make the seal. Given the door weight im skeptical that 1/8 angle would hold a 80ish lb door if i used the angle as the attachment for the hinge. Also worried about binding of the angle/ hingeImageImageImageImageImage

Yeah I would've cut the pieces out and corner welded them. I leave the plate bending to sheet metal shops lol. It looks great though very nice work. :D :salut:

Took lots of ingenuity and probably some stupidity to make it happen. Fortunately no injuries were experienced during the bending of those plates. Working on finishing up the fire box so i can get a plan for the chamber

One other little “trick” for that is just to “stitch” the bend line with a plasma cutter- just run it down that line, cut animch or two, then leave a few inches, repeat all the way down the line. It’ll bend quite easily after that, and you only have a few gaps to fill instead of doing a seal weld down the whole length of the bend.

Did that on bend #1 because i knew i could hide it and would have a weld seam on the bottom anyway. I wanted the sharp crisp lines up top. Im working on getting the back close to square. Will probably do a 60 flap wheel then 120. Trying to think ahead to paint. This obvious wont have a car paint job but id like it to look nice if for no one else but my self.ImageImage

Welded the inside seams since i weakend the metal figured i sure it back up. The pic above will be the bottom and back. Thise pics show the difference in the look of the bendsImageImage

Looking good so far!

Wish you were closer, could have rolled the pieces out on the plasma table for ya and saved some time!

So im working again on the smoker. Looking at the fire box and at the point of fabricating both air inlet, fire box to smoke chamber penetration. I was thinking of a few things.
the firebox is 30x30 and 24 wide. There will be a gap under the fire and a basket built on a slide. The goal is to be able to remove ash and debris mid cook. I was entertaining the idea of having air inlet on each side with a slide to restrict air flow and potentially a similar setup on the door. Will i grossly over do my air intake this way? Or is there a reason to just use 1 or 2 sides vs 3 sides?
Next, i need to have a lip but according to the calculator i need a 21" half circle. Which seems pretty large does this sound right or should i make the hole wider and shallower?

Mock up the lower arc is the inside as drawn while butted up to the cook chamber. Im being lazy math wise the box drawn is 25x7.5 which is enough air per the calculator 187.5. Likely will lower the smoke box and adjust. Accordingly but trying to get these two pieces together as final smoke box mounting and the hole inbetween should help set minimum height for the racks and the rail system for tuning plates further down the build sheetImage

You could do a trapezoid.
https://planetcalc.com/5155/
I would bring the opening to the very top of the firebox to avoid your heat smoke having to go down and out.
My thoughts on intakes are this. Better to have and not need than to need and not have they do not hurt a thing being closed.

The upper horizontal line was the reccomended grease lip. I know that sounds bass akwards but was trying to getba physical representation of the area that could be cut out. I agree with the idea of being able to damper off the heat. Plan to do right at 200sq in opening. Last night i was trying to figure area of a portion of a circle which was not a equasion i remember learning or could readily find. Kept the idea kicking while doing other things and realized i ws just making it complicated. 5x5=25. 8 squares. K.i.s.s.
