Foodsavers
I know there have been numerous threads on this topic that I have went back and looked at. And it seems that some are happy with the food saver, and it look like some are pleased with a little higher end Weston. Is that still the case with most of you? And are all of these things able to seal up bags with some liquid or a bit of juice in them or do they need to be dry. Mine will be for house hold use, not anything high volume. Not so much worried about price as I am in getting it right on the first try.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Foodsavers
Been using Foodsaver for years. They will suck up the liquid. To get around that, I fill the bag, freeze, then seal.
For example: I’ll put a little apple juice in a bag of pulled pork and into the freezer for a couple hours, then vacuum pack. When ready for a little pulled pork, simply drop the whole bag in simmering water until it’s heated through.

Re: Foodsavers
Basically what they ^^ said.
I have had a few Foodsavers and also have a larger Weston but 90% of the time I use a Foodsaver.
The Weston is better but the FS does work and it is lighter and has a bag cutter.
Here's a tip If you need to bag something a few inches larger than the FS can handle.
Use a bag large enough to hold the food.
At a angle seal only one corner of the bag leaving the non sealed side small enough to fit into the FS.
Now scissor clip that corner off along the seal line.
Now you can vac pack the bag using the smaller FS.
Ponder this a bit you will visualize what I am describing.

Thanks PT, I have a good visual of what you are explaining on the over sized stuff. What model do you have? I guess I can just get one at Costco.

I have a V4825.
The device on the left is used with some special bags for marinating. Pretty handy.

Also used on their solid plastic containers. I have some of those. The newest version works great. I stash lettuce in them and it stays good for weeks.
As for the Food Saver itself... LOVE mine. Makes storing food handy and keeps it good alot longer. I consider it a kitchen essential now.

Whatever brand you choose, make sure you can keep it on your countertop. Otherwise, you won't use it near as much

Re: Foodsavers
Are all the food saver bags the same? Are there different bags used specifically for boiling?

Re: Foodsavers
I have boiled in the FS bags and the off brand ones I have bought on Amazon. Don’t think there are any that can’t go in boiling water.

Well, I ended up buying the 5480 model at Costco. Brought it home and figured it out pretty quick. Now I need to order some bags and extra rolls, where do ya'll get those from?

Re: Foodsavers
Thanks EH, I'll give them a look.
I bought a package of 4 ribeyes when I picked up the food saver. And you were right about letting that stuff freeze up a bit. I packaged one of them and it squeezed it so hard it put some juice right up there at the seal. I put the other 3 in zip lock bags because they won't last long enough to worry about how long they will be in the freezer.
