Food Confession(s)

Postby jwh » Fri Sep 08, 2017 10:18 am

I have several culinary quirks that have relegated me to the culinary fringe, have disappointed friends, and have come only a little shy of causing wars with loved ones. I thought -in hopes that none of you would be surprised by future comments here and there- that I'd list the aforereferenced quirks in this thread, and let you express to exhaustion your ire, and get that out of the way, so we could move on. I did this on another forum, and, well, it seemed to turn out okay. Here they are:

    1. I like ketchup with my steaks.
    2. I like a bbq sauce with my brisket (am fine without it, too).
    3. I like miracle whip on burgers and sammiches and dogs, but do not like mayonnaise on anything.
    4. I prefer American "Cheese" on m'burgers over cheddar, etc. (though other cheeses are fine).
    5. I think Velveeta cheese product -which is not cheese- still makes one of the greatest quesos and chicken spaghetties of all times.
    6. I think Ranch is absolutely disgusting.
    7. Don't care for sour cream.
    8. Don't care for mustard.
    9. I don't like raw tomatoes, whole or sliced, and alone. I love them, however, when I make a salsa, or cook them in with m'chili, etc.
    10. Don't care for the consistency of cream cheese.
There ya go, boys. Get a rope, if you think it's necessary.

Finally, while I am not ashamed of any of these things, neither do I think they are somehow a credit or proof of having superiority over others' tastes . . . except for the ranch thing.

WOW, Josh, I'm not sure how the Jury will sway on this one so why not just say "Three Hail Aarons" and drop some S & P in the collection plate. Even if you get paroled, you should be out in time for Turkey Day. :laughing7: :D

Pssst, between you and me - - - - - I disagree with all 10 of those but I never claimed to be even close to normal when it came to food and taste. :whiteflag:

Perhaps I can shift a little of the HEAT off of you. A couple of mine:

1.) And this is a BIG one. Don't ever place a piece of steak in front of me that isn't at least 150 degrees and between med and med well. Even blindfolded I can tell. :deadhorse:

2.) Nothing raw (sushi, ceviche, tartar, oysters) All that is bait.

3.) Ranch is good, as long as made fresh (not bottled) with buttermilk, and only for salads.

4.) No sour cream. Ever.

5.) Only sauce allowed on brisket isn't sweet, and only then for chopped and burnt ends. Beef flavor should stand on its own after a dalmation rub.

Perhaps this will at least give them multiple targets while sharpening their daggers. :whiteflag: :whiteflag: :whiteflag:

Humm, seems pretty lame to me. No skeletons in the closet you care to share?
To answer yours, I'm allergic to tea, only drink my coffee black.

think I'll keep it more simple with things I "prefer" not to eat or taste:
english peas
liver or gizzards
pickled meat of ANY kind
catsup is for cocktail sauce ONLY
no-no to mayo
A-1 (should be A-zero)
avacados (any form or fashion is a no no)
sweet pickles or sweet relish
cream of wheat
tapioca or anything that resembles it
no-no to Jello
OH, I almost forgot - Worst-Ever-Sauce will never see my plate

Well lets see...
Dislikes ......
White Rice . Might just as well eat shredded newspaper
Rich creamy white or Italian Tomato sauce. I do like Catsup tho.
Pasta/noodles unless its in Mac n cheese.
Because of the upper two I aint wild about Italian food.
Mexican fast food chains food .
Cauliflower. I don't care how much junk you put on it, it still taste like cardboard
Scallops. I love seafood of all forms but for some reason Scallops just don't sit right with me. :dont:
Cranberry sauce. "Yuk"
Chicken cordon bleu. cant figure out why you'd want to ruin a perfectly good hunk of bird.
Liver. My mom tried feeding it to us boys only once.

Bill
