The Derby this year had an off track, which made things interesting...especially when Thunder Snow decided to audition for the rodeo and attempted to ditch his rider two strides from the gate. Horse 'n' rider both okay.

Not only does that deny some an equal shot but it increases the danger of injury to the Horse and even the Jockey. Of course we all know what the bottom line is$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ don't we I didn't watch it but how was the track conditions and was the field strung out at the finish or still bunched up ??

Didn't watch, but understand that track conditions were horrible in the slop due to rain, and then they run all the undercard races first before the feature at the end (which maximizes all the alcohol sales) and which means the track is all torn you know where. Saw a picture, made it look like they're running through peanut butter. It's a big track with a wide start sure, but KD absolutely should be limited to 10 or 12 entrants at most. It's no wonder they're running 203s and 204s these days.

Miss the days of Secretariat, what an athlete. Though I really did enjoy little Smarty Jones, a real gamer with an attitude and a fantastic mudder.

I too watched the race, that horse at the start was funny,lol. Melbourne cup has 24 starters. My sons called lee so the $11 for second was good for me. Conditions were shocking.

I really miss my Mom around Triple Crown Time because she would always put a Pot together at a $1 per horse for the Derby, Preakness and Belmont - - - she would write down all the Horses Names and then put them in a hat and draw entries for every one on her list that wanted in. There would usually be at least 4 or 5 of us in the Pot and we trusted her "because she was Mom" Before the gate call she would call everyone in the Pot and give them their Horses name or names and then we were trusted to fork over a buck a horse to the winner. "MISS YA MOM"

My wife's Grandpa (Pop Pop) was a horse guy. Spent nearly every day at the track. New the Jockeys at Gulfstream by name. Derby day was a Holy day to him. Glad I got to go to a couple of live race days with him. Great memories
