Rich, i'll try to help the best i can here. i have gotten the same results when lookin for tri-tips in this area too. they either know what they are and don't carry them, don't have a clue what they are, or want 9+ bucks per pound for em (which aint happening) so, a good friend of mine who is an ex meat-cutter gave me this tip: buy a whole top sirloin butt roast and seperate the tri-tip portion from it. when you buy a big sirloin steak and you notice that nice tender hunk of meat at the top that is seperated by a strip of fat and grissle, well...that is tri-tip. if you have a costco,bj's, or sam's club you should be able to buy the top sirloin roast for 2 something a pound and seperate the tri-tip "portion" (it will be about 1/2 of the whole thing) and cut the rest into sirloin steaks. if you look at my first pic. the tri-tip is the big piece in the center/rear, and the rest are petitte sirloins cut from the same roast. i hope some of this will help you.

Good lookin food there Desi!

Good info on the tri tip. I have been seeing people talk about tri tip, but never knew what it was. I had some of that tri tip tonight and didn't even know it!

desi,
Thanks for the good tip, I had no idea! We do have a Sam's Club about thirty minutes away.

Finally found a butcher that knew about tri-tip, for 15.00$ a pound he would bring it in, NOT!

I like your approach, Sam's trip in order.
Thanks for the info.

You're not supposed to go to store when you're hungry. You'll end up buying crap ya don't need.
