Salt slab ?

Postby bondobill » Sun Sep 18, 2016 11:29 am

Kids gave me a salt slab last year as a gift.
Anyone ever used one on the grille. ?

Never tried using it yet :dont:
Per instructions Im tempering it in the oven today....slow process the way it looks.
It came with good instructions on the tempering process but as far as cooking on it all it says is...."Let your creativity be your guide"
With that being said, I could be in for a long learning curve  :?

Any suggestions guys

I've never used one Bondo.
Probably for good reason tho lol.
I'm a salt freak, I'd probably chew on that like a Godiva chocolate bar.
Not sure my high bp would like it tho :(

Used mine several times - think of it as a cast iron pan that you use to get a good sear on whatever you are grilling. Continue cooking on the salt block or move it to your grid if you like.

Scallops are outstanding. To get a good sear on them, dry the scallops well with paper towels add a hint of EVOO along with your favorite seasonings

Google salt block and you will get a bunch of info, including how to clean

Be careful to follow the tempering instructions carefully. I did not. I'm an idiot. I had one big block turn into a hundred small ones :laughing7:

Thanks guys
It was in the oven all day..bumping up the temp 50 degrees ever 45 minutes or so. Just turned the oven off after sitting at 500 degrees for a hour. Letting it cool down now. So far so good on the tempering process.
Looking forward to giving it a get go. Not tonight tho.
