Need to build a upper rack
Any pictures of upper rack builds? I want to be able to pull the rack and have it stay in place not flip. Do you use a C channel and square tubing on the rack? Thanks for any info.

Re: Need to build a upper rack
I use 1.5" x 1.5" angle for my rails. I use 1" x 1" x 1/4" angle for my grate frames. Once the grates are built I place them on the rails and put a 1/16" spacer on the grate then I add a 1" x 1/4" flat bar and weld it to the angle iron this makes my anti tippers.

I hope this helps.

Re: Need to build a upper rack
I have C channel on my upper racks in my offset smoker and angle iron racks on my new charcoal smoker. I prefer using angle iron for the rails as k.a.m. explained over C channel. You have more room for expansion and ultimately get a tighter fit with angle iron. C channel doesn't have a very big lip for the grate frame to rest on so you have to fit it fairly tight. When the smoker gets hot the grates tend to stick a little. I'd recommend using the angle iron rails with an anti-tip plate.
