Looks nice! Cross your fingers on welding that out and keeping your doors flanged flush. I for one do all my welding before I cut my doors out. Then I work my doors to match whatever spring it gives me, fyi

lookin' good Image

did you think about cutting your doors with a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder?
that's a very popular way to do it now
you get a real clean, thin, straight line

Everything is already welded out... no springing when you take your sweet time.

I thought about it for a split second then I realized how thick my material is, and how much cutting was involved. I would still be cutting lol

Well my wife had a death in the family so we have been out of town so progress slowed a bit. BUT I did get some work done yesterday afternoon and got the rack completed and welded in the limiting guides so I can extend the shelves all the way out with weight and they wont topple over.

Well over the weekend (in between thunderstorms) I got one of the end caps fit up, hole punched for the exhaust, and the 90 welded up.
This is not the side where the exhaust will be mounted but it had better lighting at night while we were fitting it up

Last night we got the one end plate fit, welded, added the actual stack, and welded in the bird screen for the top so no critters can get in if for some reason I forget to close the dampner.

I like it. Eventually is it staying on the ground or on a trailer?

Really nice pit you got going on. Sorry to hear about your wifes fam. Good thing that smoker is heavy, with all the flooding yall been having down there it would be gone. I know this is a BBQ page. I would like to see some of your trucks that you ride low in. I build bagged trucks as a hobby.

Well behind the scenes I've been having the pit handles turned and machined. These are not my handles but these are an example of them (newer, polished, and not so dirty but you get the picture lol)

Last night I didn't have a bunch of time but I did get my rack handles cut to length from 1/2" solid rod, I made a jig to shape them, and with a torch I made some handles.

Well I didn't have much time to work this week, but I did get my handles welded on. The upper rack handles I had to pitch inward just a bit so they clear the door.

I also got all the material cut and ready to fit up for the adjustable flue (you can see the material on the rack in this picture). basically its going to have a 6" cap on top, and a solid rod running down the stack to a handle that I can swing one way or the other to open and close.
