Warning about HEB Prime1

Postby txluke » Thu Oct 22, 2015 12:36 am

I picked up 3 HEB prime1 briskets. All three had a huge slice in the side and cuts in the top. I opened the first one for the San Antonio Livestock Show cook off. I almost wanted to cry. The next two weekends I opened the others at cook offs and found the same. At least I got 8th and 6th with those. ImageImage

The last one didn't have much of a point either. Just mostly fat. I block mine to fit in turn in box so it didn't bother me much. Here is what it looked like.

HEB should give you a refund.

Congrats on the top tens! I'd definitely go back to that HEB and show those pics to a manager. At least they will know there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Yeah I think packin houses are using chain saws now instead of knifes. Last few briskets we got were all hacked up too. Must not be any professional butchers left at packing houses, just hourly workers with no pride in their work! :(

I've had no problems with Costco briskets.

Snake River Farms, Double R Ranch Primes. Cooked up 24 of them at the Jack. Great briskets.

Snake River Farms ages their briskets for 28 days. I can't justify buying them at $99 for a 11-15 brisket plus another $50 shipping. The Costco primes are only 35% of that amount. I'm sure they are delicious.

My last brisket was also a Costco prime and it was quite good.

Aye laddy, but I am not comping, just eating as a lowly hick backwoods hillbilly. :D In the PNW, a lot of the comp folks bought Snake River Farms, or Brandt Beef. I ordered a Brandt just to compare. Better than Costco? Yes. Worth the price to me? No. :rambo:

At home it is what ever Debbie can find that resembles a whole packer with decent marbling.
