Oklahoma Joe Highland
My only smoker is a Weber 22.5" kettle. Sad, I know. My goal now is to buy an offset, and a WSM. I see that my local Walmart has some Oklahoma Joe Highlands boxed up for $288. I'm finding mixed reviews on these units so far. I don't want to buy a can of worms that needs modifications just to be decent. So, should I just wait for a better offset, perhaps used on Craigslist?

The Oklahoma Joe Highland (made by Char-Broil) is a decent entry level smoker. It will get the job done. Finding a better smoker on Craig's list would be better, but these are snapped up pretty quick. Good hunting.

Re: Oklahoma Joe Highland
in my limited experience, i think all store-bought smokers will require some level of modification or tweaking - but that's part of the fun with a new smoker: making it your own and learning about how your cooker works best.
that said, if i had my choice, i would try to be as patient as possible and watch Craigslist or even ebay like a hawk for good deals on cookers.
