Here you go fellas.... my design and build of my outdoor bar project:
http://imgur.com/a/hqkRG
I will be updating this thread as I continue to make progress. Next week I'll finish the last bit of blocks and install the countertops. Then on to the 2nd phase which will be a continuous split-level bar in behind this bar, and it will have an insert grill, a functioning sink, power, etc.
If anybody is interested in building something like this, I can tell it it's very inexpensive and very cheap. Don't hesitate if you've been pondering... do it!!
Enjoy!!

Re: My new outdoor bar project
Excellent, well done! Reminds me of my old ManKitchen <sob>. Rose Arizona flagstone, cedar pergola, eyebrow lights under the bar rim. Built the cabinet doors myself from scratch from Mesquite planks from an old dead granddaddy tree harvestednear Glen Rose. Miss it still, especially my Klose SS smoker.

Very nice Boots. Seems we have similar interests. I can't wait to cover my patio most of all so I can attempt to "beat the heat". Priorities first though... gotta have the bar!

Re: My new outdoor bar project
Very nice! I can't wait to see the progress and final product. That will be around for many years to come!
Here is my patio project in process. My wife and I bought this house in April and wanted to create an outdoor living space. There was only a small covered, boring area out back and that had to change! So far, we had the patio extended 10' out from the existing patio which makes the entire thing 18' x 18' plus an 8" stamped concrete border and step-down at the end. We just finished staining the concrete ourselves a couple of weekends ago. Next up, I just bought a 46" flatscreen to go on the wall to the left of the window and will get it hung and satellite service wired to it in the coming weeks. Then the plan around spring is to have a cedar pergola built to cover the new patio extension and hang party lights above similar to Boot's pic. The only thing slowing this project down is the cash flow.

Re: My new outdoor bar project
Toby and Styk, looks great. If it helps, subcontractors who built our pergola was a father/son team out of Tarrant County (Mansfield or BB
Burleson(?)) called A Shady Business. Fast, friendly, reasonably cheap.

Re: My new outdoor bar project
Thanks for the recommendation Boots, that is very courteous. I plan on doing all the work myself and if I hit a snag (or get lazy, lol), I work for a general contractor so good sub-contractor help is a phone call away for me. One of the perks of a job like mine in things like this.
I got more done today, will post pics later.

Re: My new outdoor bar project
It worked for. I had the choice of 1) Doing it myself and getting crushed by a 12 foot / 12" cedar timber or 2) paying somebody competent to do it. Easy to figure that one out...

Re: My new outdoor bar project
Made progress last weekend.... now the blocks are 100% complete:
And of course one of these were earned in the process.
And I forming/pouring the countertops tomorrow. Gonna be a high of 75 and sunny this Saturday... looks like perfect weather to break it in!!

Re: My new outdoor bar project
Took advantage of the 77° January weather yesterday and finished the upper countertop. It is now fully functional. Just a little stone veneer, foot rail and tiling the countertops as the final finishes and it's completely done!! Now I gotta get stools which will cost more than the bar itself, haha.
