Any one ever competed in a hamburger competition?

Postby TXLNGHRN » Thu Jan 29, 2015 1:15 pm

I might do one for fun at a music fest I'm going to. Never done one before

Is there any tips or tricks besides how I normally would make it?

Think out of the bun and over the top. Like Ostrich with truffle mayo, Canberra cheese, avocado wedges, heirloom tomato jam & Wild Boar bacon on a Brioche roll to be honest I'll take two of your right now it is dressed to Blu's standards

Burger comps are awesome. Definitely do it if you get the chance. I have some BBQ and cooking awards now, but the one in the picture was my first actual win in any comp. It was doubly important to me because my father-in-law, who has been an accomplished competition chuckwagon cook for 20 years, called me up in late March 2010 and told me to come down and enter the burger comp in Cedar Park so he could kick my @$$...lol. He called me every couple of days antagonizing me right up until the day of the comp, and that day I took first and he took second. Not only was it a great feeling of accomplishment, but it was just a lot of fun cooking with him and the other teams and getting to know 'em. That started the comp bug, I started competing in BBQ that year. I don't do many per year, which is probably why I still derive a lot of enjoyment out of 'em...lol. Find a person or two who you like to hang out with and cook with, and go have a great time...
