I seasoned it in using the XXL(18lbs) fire box I built, the temp gradually climbed, yet the outside stayed cool to the touch. After 8 hours the gauge still read 650 and I could not bring it down. I have scrapped the XXL box for a smaller box I use on my burger pit. I load 40 briquettes and torch lite a few in one corner. The temp stabilizes around 240-270. A five hour cook burns 2.8 pounds. I add five new briquettes every hour and half or so to maintain.

Curious artifact in action. And here I thought all they made was tractors and pre-1980's trucks with chronically defective U-joints.
