Made the travel to the meridian national championship. 194 teams Dr. Smoke had a pretty decent turnout. We placed 1st chicken and that was it, which was surprisingly good enough for 3rd overall. The guy that won walked 1st ribs and brisket. When they were calling out the top 3 briskets they called every number but the last. I was sure we had it, nope! Oh well there is always next year.
Met a lot of nice BBQ cookers, lots of jambos, pitmakers, R&O, etc. i also wanted to lay to rest any concerns about how the Cookoff was ran. We arrived at 1:30 pm and we were in our spot by 3pm and the meats were checked in and we were setup. The turn In was directly In the center for ease of all cookers. We opted to be closer to the exit and we still only had a minute and a half walk which for a Cookoff of that size is awesome. Entries are loaded up in the back of a truck after the time expires and they are transported to the pavilion which is 2 minutes away drive. It's a good paying Cookoff and we intend to cook this one every year from here on out. There is literally no bad cook spots at this Cookoff.
Also congrats to cannonball express who has some walks, James brooks on his 4th chicken, and to all else that walked.

Nice call on the chicken, that trophy's a keeper.
I might have to give this one a shot next year.

Congrats on your 1st place chicken Justin, that is AWESOME!!! I ended up with a 2nd place Ribs and 1st in People's Choice, and a 5th place overall. I'm still on cloud 9!

Congrats! I had a blast even though I was only able to pull a final table rib out of the action. Very well run cook off. The comittee and the people of Meridian Rock. We had some technical difficulties with our generator and the people of meridian went above and beyond to get us up and running. I def. can say nothing bad at all about this cook.
