Southern Pride Problems

Postby Mr Beard » Tue Sep 02, 2014 11:29 am

I am currently running a Southern Pride SRG 400 and just wondered if anybody had come across any bumps in the road with these? I would love to know however big or small a problem you may have had with them......just curious is all......

Never heard of them before, then noticed they are commercial cookers. Nice price tag as well.
KCBS - CBJ
PNWBA - CBJ
Jambo Clone, Primo Oval XL, Blaz'n Grills Pellet Stove, Weber 22.5", Lynx SS Grill, The Big Easy

Do I gather by that response you are not a fan of commercial smokers?

I think the problem is that most just haven't cooked with commercial cookers. I personally wouldn't know where to start. :dont:
20" x 40" Party Gator Pit
Custom Mobile Stick Burner
Summerset TRL 32" Built-In Grill
Weber Q2200
48" Custom Firepit
Bertello Pizza Oven

I can't always please everybody. I'm not bacon.

I'm curious about the SRG 400. How is it performing? What are you cooking in it? How well does a type 1 hood ventilation system handle the smoke output? What is your maintenance/cleaning schedule like and how often/long do you run it?

Thanks!

JM2C I think they make bad BBQ no smoke flavor :puke: every place I ever ate that has one the meat tasted like roasted in an oven. I won't eat BBQ at a joint that uses one. Oyler On the other hand makes a great pit.

BD commercial pits are like any other it's the cook not the cooker.
I owned a Old Hickory and I could have used the gas option to cook the entire batch or just use it to start the wood. Another member of the forum has that pit now and is using it to much acclaim.
You like Oylers because they don't offer the option gas it.
