Perseverance

Postby MaxBobcat » Sun Oct 05, 2014 8:48 pm

Well boys, I finally did it. I finally got a top-10 call. Came in with a 10th place call in brisket at the Keller Lions Club this weekend. 62 teams.

This was my sixth comp and even though I hear stories of people coming out and taking a first or second place on their first try, that certainly hasn't been the way it's worked out for me. I don't have much of a set up, comparatively speaking, just an EZ-Up and a Weber Bullet, but they pulled through this weekend to get me a call. I am really pumped and excited for my next contest.

Thanks to Big Ed and everybody else that I spoke to this weekend that continue to give me encouragement.

Til next time...! :salut:

Big congrats! The Keller cook had quite a few good teams, and with the large number of them, commendations are certainly in order. Great job! Many of the cooks you cooked against cook almost every weekend. So, you did pretty darned good ;)

Congrats on the call. First thing I would do if I were you is take out the drip pan/water bowl to make it direct heat, and cook with B&B oak lump charcoal with 1-2 fist sized chunks of pecan buried in the middle. Also another tip, when you think it's salty enough, add more salt!
