Vertical backwoods bws clone build
Just got started on this yesterday. In the tradition of many great pitmasters before me, here is my shot at being a pitmaker.
This is based off of the CAD drawing found online, you can Google and find the info which is definitely helpful in building
Frame all cut up
Capped the bottom end
Frame welded up.
The build is a lot bigger than I thought initially. It is pitmaker vault/ backwoods competitor size.
This is as far as we got in a few hours. Next is the water pan. Going with 1/4" sheet for this, then onto the walls.

Re: Vertical backwoods bws clone build
Work to be done this weekend. What's missing with the pic below is the bottom water pan plate/heat diverter... aka, plate between the firebox and cook chamber.
Got a big ol 1/4" plate for this, eveything else will be thinner.
Hoping to get interior walls done this weekend

Re: Vertical backwoods bws clone build
Looking like a real smoker
1/4" plate for the plate between the fire and smoke chamber. .. man those are not fun to cut lol
Back
Lucky I have a bws to get the pattern off of. .. no fancy CAD work lol
My version of copy and paste
Holy smokes, the exhaust is 3/16... not easy to drill into. Tried my hand and sharpening 1/2" drill bits, no luck. Ran through 2, they are expensive. .. bought a unibit for the first time (also VERY expensive) wow, they are awesome, hope it stays sharp
And that's it for this weekend, interior and bottom plate Done!
Next weekend hope to get second walls, then exterior walls!

18 ga for the interior 3 walls, the rest, including bottom fire box plate will be 16g..this was recommended by a guy who built the same smoker and did this on the second one. also appears to be about what bws uses for thickness

Re: Vertical backwoods bws clone build
That's going to be a pork butt/brisket smoking machine......I wish I had one right now, 2nd night in a row cooking brisket, not too bad on the Pit Barrel, however, loading a 30 gallon drum with 40+ pounds meat has its "issues" along with getting up at 4 A.M. to go to work....
