Had a great time cooking this one, lots of great cooks. Congrats to Team Redneck, 1st beans, 1st chicken,8th brisket, 3rd overall. Big Ed got 4th brisket, and I managed 10th in ribs and finals on beans.
First time having meat on the new R & O smoker, have a few kinks to work out but I am extremly happy with her. Big thanks to Sucklebusters on there great rubs- used Hogwaller as the rib base rub and there honey sauce on the ribs. Great seeing all the forumn members , got to meet JeffG -HoneyHushBBQ,who cooked next to us- final on chicken. Great time, lil crowded but the Elks took care of all the cookers, feed us nice breakfast, asked if we needed anything-beer runs, ice runs, jello shots, medals for 3rd to 15 th place. President of the Elks, Grand Poohbah ( what Big Ed called him)also shooked our hands and thanked us for showing up and asked for input. Overall great cookoff.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

Congrats to all for your calls, and thanks for posting this! We elected to not cook this one in lieu of cooking next week in Waxahachie, but I was wondering how this comp was put together. Sounds like they went out of their way to make sure everyone was taken care of and had a good time. Pretty darned important. We'll have to put that one on the radar for next year.

Again, thanks much for sharing!

Sounds like ol' Big Ed is trying to buffalo us... :laughing7: I remember reading a post where he said he was having "trouble with brisket as of late."
Looks like he did quite well.

Congrats to everyone on the walks. :salut:

Limey, it was nice to meet ya and hang out bud.
We had some problems that we couldn't overcome in time, so the best part of our trip was the bloody mary Big Ed made for me...haha!
Despite our problems, we were lucky to get 12th in chicken and we had a great time at a great cookoff.
