Little Elm Autumn Fest Cookoff

Postby Papa Tom » Fri Sep 14, 2007 4:28 pm

I am planning on competing in this event. This is a non-sanctioned fun event held in conjunction with the town fall festival . It is well organized and put on by the local Legion club. This might be a good event to meet some of the DFW members of the forum. It is held in the Little Elm park on Lewisville Lake and there will be a lot of other fun events there as well. Saturday evening will have live music in the amphitheater and fireworks. Note the free dinner Friday nite this a bring a dish event and the contestants will share their favorites all are welcome. On Saturday after turn ins they usually have a peoples choice contest as well. For a $1 donation to the Legion club you will get a plate and a ballet then go to the various teams and see what they can do to get your vote.

Whattya think?

You gotta trust me on this one I might not be hard to find. As you come into the area look back to the left (south) and there's a EZ up tent with a 8' red on yellow banner that says "Papa Tom's Barbeque" I will be nearby. And if all goes well you might be one of the first in the world to taste the soon to be famous Hoochie Mama rub on some BBQ.

And I was at that

So I got to meet Papa Tom, and to my surprise I also met our very own Gator!

I tasted Papa's brisket, Ribs, and Chicken, and I must say I still have a long way to go.  I know I wouldn't have won.

I did not get to stay for the announcing of the winners, so How'd you do!?

Sure was good to meet you both!!

I wouldn't say that...sometimes the judges are like NFL refs....questionable judgment, blind, etc
PS: Judges, I'm JUST KIDDING

As Bowhunter said, I had the pleasure of spending some time with he and Papa Tom today, both class guys. We got to sample Papa Tom's que (which I hold in the highest regard) and try out Hoochie to boot. Best wishes on the results Tom, thanks again for sharing your 'que and tent with me. Oh, and the Burbon Sauce was great too!

Well the results are in and I wasn't in them which takes away the suspicion and removes all doubt,,,, There was a judge problem..... :D
OK Know I can't win it all and the throwdown was big...
Interestingly enough the first place brisket went to a guy doing his first cook not competition but cook. He had a borrowed old brinkman offset some Albertsons charcoal a brisket, ribs and some chunks of oak firewood. He may have gotten some pointers but because he was right next to me I know he did it mostly by himself. The point is anyone can.
All in all a great time and was really a pleasure meeting Gator and Bowhunter.
