Postby NPayne1 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 8:43 am

Who's going? I'll be there trying to win some of the $35k they are paying out. Keep an eye out and if ya spot me, come enjoy a cold one.

Good luck. I cooked the first one, it was a cluster and won't be cooking the other two.

I cooked the first one in NB and thought they did a good job especially considering the weather and the size of the cook off. We never got reliable power but we brought a generator. I think Western Wood is trying to really boost the quality and payouts of cook offs in Texas and are doing a great job! Was it perfect? No but it was far from the worst one I have been to.
I can't cook the second one but will cook the third one. Looking forward to it.
I just wish WW would do something in SE Texas!

I did not cook in NB but heard some cooks talking about how the GC is not leading in the points for the series, doesn't seem right to me!! :dont:

Cooked the first one and had a ball. Yeah, the overall points system is different but acceptable if you understand it. I'm looking forward to Helotes. Stop by and holla at Mama and Papa Joe if you get a chance.
Good food, good friends and good times. The very best bbq, from us to you.

Agree 100%. Steve Grams and the WW crew WANT to run the best cookoff that you've ever been to. As someone that's run cookoffs before I can say, the second one always runs waaaay better than the first. Can't wait to see what they do in Helotes!

I did not cook it either, and can't this time around. If hadnt sold my smoker I would be cooking in them. Hopefully by next year I will have my cube down enough to cook in this if they do it.

I like the fact that they award points for each round and you basically build them as you go through the rounds.

Baby girl turns 3 that weekend, so I'm out. Depending on plans, I'm gonna try to get out there and judge some final tables or something. Probably walk around and harass CJ!!

Other than the weather, I can't complain about the 1st cookoff in NB.

If you could send CJ over to our space and give me a quick brisket lesson that would be great, thanks.

The comp is over and I'm home recovering. Had a blast and thought the cookoff ran very well. It was a bit chilly out Friday and down right cold Friday night, but the sun came out Saturday and it was gorgeous! We had a great time and were shocked with a 2nd place walk in chicken. Didn't fair too well in any others, but am still on cloud 9 with the walk in chicken ( it's my mortal enemy). Congrats to every cooker out there and to those who walked. Hopefully we will get to see/meet some of y'all at the Turn & Burn.

Well done on the chicken walk. That makes the whole effort worth it and gets you pumped for the next one....kind of like that one great golf shot that keeps you coming back. :D
