What makes a cook off worthy of returning to next year? What suggestions would you pose for those trying to put together a cook off? Of the cook offs that you compete at, what were some of the things that stand out in your mind?
First off the top of my head are pays cash and great head judges....

Pay out is definitely a big consideration. Also how well the organizers take care of the cooks. We've been at some events and someone is coming by to pick up trash and ask if you need anything about every hour and a half. Then I've done some and you don't see any of the organizers, after meat inspection, until the awards. I also like to do events that at least have some type of water supply. I can do without power, but it's nice to have water for cleaning your utensils, cutting boards and yourself.

#1. Must be sanctioned I will not cook at bar cooks or local we are gonna do it the same as cooks.
#2. Pay out must justify me cooking it. ( with the exception of Fishing Fiesta it is just fun.)
#3. Water & electricity are nice but not a deal breaker.
#4. Being able to leave after the awards.
I am sure there are more but these are my tops.

Agree with what's been said. I would also say for awards to be within a couple hours of last turn in. There is one comp around here that have awards 6 hours after turn-ins at 9pm! Don't think I'm going back to that one.

Re: What makes a quality cook off?
i prefer a good payout and the cruddiest most unlevel place there is, no water and no electricity, and early awards, gives us alot better odds since we come battle ready with everything. seriously. we have cooked at some sh#### locations. actually carry a spare generator that can run 1 a/c in case the ol trusty onan craps out. only happened once
on the flip side, the more enjoyable cookoffs are the ones that are sanctioned and payout good, electricity and water available and have ice for sale along with trash pickup.
