I second what Ed said, I was going to go until this weekend, I didn't hear a single cook say it was good and worth the effort.

With that being said, I'm cooking Spookys that weekend.

all the bad your hearing is total BS. Its a great cook off and very well run. Pays well all the way to 10th place. I have been last 2 years and going again this year. Lots of fun.

There are those that will trash anything that is sanctioned by Lone Star. Dont drink the cool aide. Go and decide for your self

Both myself AND the wife are cooking it this year.

I've always had a good time there. Never thought to myself "wow this is a bad cook". I agree with Pony on this one. Go check it out for yourself I think you'll have a good time.

Had a good time. Place 12th in chicken and ribs. Nothing on brisket. Also congratulations to Angie Pruitt for taking grand champion.

was a good time as usual. Rain hit around 10pm Saturday nite. Big down pour. Really sucked packing up Sunday morning.

Only managed to get a 15th final table in brisket. My best brisket showing there to date.

Looking forward to next year.

I agree with Jeff, the cookoff itself seems like a ton of fun, but there are what I see as some serious issues with it. The biggest is the payout, they took in about $36k in entrance fees and paid out a measly $20k, I know some cooks that are reluctant to even go to a cookoff that pays back 75%, Meridian was even worse than that. I understand that there are some costs involved with putting on a large event, but it seems for a "National Championship" the payout aught to be a little better then that. Heck, I was at Grand Prairie a couple weeks back, 82 teams and a $20k payout...

My $.02

have never understood the pay out argument . they paid out 20K. They do it to raise money. They tell us what they are raising the money for.

Just where the heck is it written that there must be a certain % pay back?
