BBQ Team Names

Postby theirishbbqer » Thu Jun 13, 2013 7:29 pm

Hey everyone! My friends and I are currently thinking of different names for our cookoff team. Would love to hear ya'lls best suggestions of how to get to the best name for a cookoff team. :D

theirishbbqer, think about what y'all like to do besides cook and incorporate it into your name. My wife and I love the beach as well as salt water fishing. We also like to relax in the evening with a shot or two of tequila. Pretty much what we came up with for our name. " Tequila Sunrise BBQ Team". :D
Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Maybe a play on your last name or some connection with the area or city you live in works well also.

+1 on this. My last name is Erbe, prounounced like herb, minus the h. When I start doing cookoffs, my team name is going to be Smokin Erbe. Of course I'll have to have my name below so folks realize its a play on my name and not the drug. Its just a fun play on my name like Bruno suggested.

Do you trademark your names? How do you avoid others taking it?

My partner and I are in the oil business....we chose "Smokin' Wildcatters BBQ Team". Put something in your personal life that means a lot to you and incorporate it to your team name....good luck!

Family heritage is a good start too, but be careful what you mix it with. For instance, if yer Irish, "Celtic Porkers" or the "Belfast Basters" (if yer the orange variety) is probably a turn down the wrong road so to speak. After you think you got a name picked out, sit down, open a Guiness, focus REAL hard, and contemplate it for a bit. If need be, repeat this step several times to make sure you get it right. Now, say for example, the name fits too easily into a dirty limerick - "There once was a Pig Smoker from Clyde / he had him a fair durable hide / but he cooked the steaks until frazzled / his wife was no longer dazzled / so she locked him in a pressure cooker 'til fried" - see, here you definitely got yerself a problem case of Limerick Vulnerability and would have to re-bait the hook and keep fishing.

"Celtic Cookers" or the "Gaelic Grillers" or the "Shillelagh Smoke Kings" on the other hand, are winner winner chicken dinner. I could drink Jameson's for a week and not be able to rhyme Celtic or Gaelic or Shillelagh into a dirty limerick anybody would appreciate so these are solid gold.

And whatever you do, keep it subtle. The world just ain't ready for a Flamin' Leprechauns barbecue team yet.

Bobby: "No."

Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have to include "flaming" "piggy" "smoking" or "Big" + Your first name +"'s BBQ"

If you all were in the same scout troop you could be "a pack of smokes"
Thank You to all the fine folks here for all the tips and advice so I can now smoke a chunk of meat and folks actually eat it.
