Shotgun Fred BBQ Showdown Huntsville, Tx 2/27-3/1 2014

Postby Swamp Donkeyz BBQ » Thu Jun 06, 2013 2:51 pm

Date and Place are set. This event will be KCBS sanctioned and will be held at the Walker County Fairgrounds in Huntsville, Texas. The event will help fund, and promote, a schoarship program, in Fred Pirckle's name, for students who wish to attend SHSU to pursue a carrer in IT. I will be updating this thread as I get more information, such as prize money, concert added money, etc. Hope to have some of my Brothers show up. Stay tuned!

The organizers will be signing the contract, tomorrow morning, to use the Walker County Fairgrounds for the cook off. It has 92 40' x 40' sites with water and 15 amp power service.

It's going to be a pretty big event. You'd be surprised how fast it'll get here when your helping put it together.

I just got an e-mail from KCBS that the sanctioning for the cook off has been officially approved. Also, since it is a first year contest, as long as 15 teams cook all four catagories the event will be a qualifier for the American Royal and the Jack Daniel's, if we can get the state proclomation. Some folks from SHSU are talking about having a CBJ class at Sam this October too. I'll keep posting more info as we go.

I don't think getting 15 teams will be a problem. Might run out of space...

The oraganizers told me yesterday that the fliers and applications will be ready to start sending out next week. I will have some more news to report in the next day, or two, about the payout. It's going to be a pretty good "Guaranteed" payout. If you would like to be added to the mailing list you can email me at swampdonkeyzbbq@gmail.com and I will pass it on to the organizers. Thanks Guys!

The organizers of the Shotgun Fred BBQ Showdown called me tonight and said they are going to GUARANTEE a $10,000 payout at the cook off next March. They will have a breakdown of the payout next week. Also, the entry fees will be $300, for your four meats, before January first and $350 after the first. If you haven't already sent me your address or email address you can do so at swampdonkeyzbbq@gmail.com

$300 to $350 seems pretty steep for a first year contest. Most KCBS events are anywhere from $200 to $250 if paid early. Some do have an upcharge for electrical hook ups though, which ya'll have 92 of, so maybe that was taken into consideration. I guess I'm just used to the normal $150 IBCA fees around here.

No charge for electric or water. And the spaces are 40'x40'. I thought it was steep too until they told me what they are guaranteeing as prize money. Who knows, if enough teams show up they may add to the prize money. I'll keep my ears open when I'm around the organizers.
