Hinges

Postby super8mm » Sun Jun 09, 2013 11:09 pm

I have a question about hinges. Mine are getting pretty stiff and squeeky.

What might be the fixes for these things, I dont want to use any kind of spray if it will mess up my foods.

Where are your hinges located??? If they are on the outside I dont see how this would get in or on your food. Not to mention the little bit you'll be applying should burn off fairly quickly...

If you can get them apart I would put some never seize on them. If not get an old style oil can and give a few drips from time to time. :D

Thanks Blazer, I cant take them apart as they are welded.

is the never seize thin eough that it might be worked in with a flux brush or tooth pick?

is it the same stuff that is used on gas fittings for like fireplace logs?

Hi super8mm,

I would suggest you try a list amount of vegetable oil and see if you can work that into your hinges. It isnt the best lubricant, but if any drips onto food, it is foodsafe.

That is a good idea Mike, I have some old needles that I may be able to inject it down into the hinge better too.

Vegtable oil will work, or some PAM could help... Or fire up the pit throw some WD-40 on the hings and let it rock for an hour or 2 before putting any food on it. Unless youre soucing it, an hour later there should be very little left to drip if any.

Veggie oil when the pit is warm works great, no fouls odors on the food, the air can circulate in aazing ways right into the fb and cooking chamber.

super8mm, put the veggie oil on cold and work it in till the creek is gone. Then when you fire her up apply it again.
