Cooking in the rain......

Postby Smokin Horns » Wed May 18, 2011 11:16 pm

With this weekend forcast here in north Texas, and you boys going to winstar, how do you guys/gals deal with the rain? I know it is what it is deal with it situation but just wondering if you had any suggestions that might help a 1st year comp cook that has never had to deal with it before.

Thanks,
Chris

Get as much cover as you can and keep wind out as much as possible. Also remeber you'll need more air to keep your logs burning because the air is very humid, keep the inlets wide open and regulate from the exhaust.
I have always said that adverse weather at competitions separates the men from the boys, good luck.

2 EZ Ups, one to work under and one for the pit. Be sure and have enuff tarps to close off the blowing rain. A 20x10 and a 10x10 is what we used. And enuff zip ties to put 'em up. We've cooked 3 contests in the rain, and were GC at 2 And RGC at the other. We love cookin' in the rain!

well whut we do now is just show up and raise the side panel wings to extend the permantly mounted metal roof to an overall 13 x 12 foot print covered area. just gotta be cheatin! :D we don't wooory bout wind, rain or sun! If the wind is gonna blow ova that 2,000 pound pit we ought not be there any ole ways. Fought the perinial rain battle for 10 years and a year ago I had that roof mounted on the pit. lawdy i should have done it years ago. Best $900 bucks I ever spent on Q equipment.
