Smallest pit recommendation for comps?
Looking to get a trailered reverse flow smoker that I can eventually use for competitions if I want. How small of a smoker would you recommend?

Is the rk250 big enough for comps? Which gator pits are you referring to?

I cook on UDS smokers no set size for comps you just need room for three racks of ribs two whole chickens and a brisket or two.

I just ran across this site: http://www.southeastsmokercompany.com/
Are they owned by the east texas smoker company? Site looks the same except for name and location.

Re: Smallest pit recommendation for comps?
To each his own, depends if you're entertaining or just turning in compt meat. Heck last cookoff I did fajitas and chicken on an Old Smokey, and placed 1st and 5th respectively out of 30 teams

You cannot go wrong with a Gator. Richie can build them as small or as big as you want. Here is a pic of my Gator which is a smaller one. It's great for comps.

Re: Smallest pit recommendation for comps?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight.. It's the size of the fight in the dog..
Michael Vick told me that once... Jk
I too compete with UDS.. did a IBCA rib and chix comp, last year.. 3rd in baby bax.
8th in spares.. And 11th in chix.. 57 teams.. 9th overall. My best showing to date..
What you get comfortable with is what you'll do the best with.
If you go small now, small $$..
You will definitely get addicted and want to upgrade soon, so bite the bullet and go big now. Or at least a midsize, not much legroom but better mileage.. LoL
good luck and remember to post plenty of pics...

Re: Smallest pit recommendation for comps?
I guess my point is....capacity. I doubt everyone who cooks chicken only makes one half a chicken or half a rack or ribs. And then there's the "donate BBQ" at the end of the comp for to be sold and proceeds donated to some charity.
