I posted this list on quite a few forums over the past few years and thought you guys might like a copy of the updated list here. Enjoy....

Below is a list of Custom BBQ Pit Makers that I have been compiling since 2005. The intention of this list is to provide basic contact information of custom pit builders, to anyone thinking of buying a heavy duty/handmade BBQ Pit, with a few exceptions. Feel free to suggest others not listed here. Thanks to all the guys that have sent new names to me. As of 1-10-2010 all of the links below were working.

Tips on using this list.


- For most of us buying a handmade BBQ pit is a big investment so take your time, do your homework and look at all of the products the different builders have to offer and what the various pits cost.

- Post questions on the forum about options (needed and wanted) to get some feedback from more experienced folks.

- Make a decision on a price limit.

- Consider which design makes the most sense for the way YOU will use the pit.

- Start with the builders closest to your home state to help save on shipping costs. Then study the products and prices, call and ask questions to determine which builder can give you what you want.

- Make a detailed specification list and send it to several builders for quotes. Get exact quotes in writing before any work starts.

- Don't let a builder talk you into or out of anything. You’re spending the money not them so make sure you get what you want and don’t be afraid to walk away and find another builder.

- If you’re not comfortable with a builder try another one.

A few months ago the camp I work at for kids with special needs, was in search of a smoker for our kids, and fund raising events. If it were not for you taking time to make this list, we would have not known about Diamond Plate Products and their wonderful staff. We now have one of their fat 50 series with side burners and lots of chrome,stacks,wheels and such. Thanks for doing what yall do, thats what makes this such a great forum! Bigdaddydanbbq.

That's cool.....I intended it to be for Custom smokers or at least for companies that you could actually speak with the builder before buying. I hope the updated list will be useful to you guys. What about Backwoods Smokers out of Dixie, LA - Vertical Insulated - "If you want to be the Best ..... you have to beat the Best"..... Not saying Backwoods are the Best - I will say they build a Smoker that has won many National Chamionships....... and they have the respect from many Pit Masters on the National Circuit........... JUST compare "apples to apples" when buying.... If you are in the market for an insualted smokers - evaluate ALL for quality and price, same as off-set stick burners ..... be smart look at all of them before spending your hard earned money..... There are MANY Quality Pit bulders out there!!! just my .02 worth....

Well, my original intention in compiling this list was to list only shops that do custom work. Backwoods are indeed great cooker but they don't do custom work.
