It looks great, but you better not let it stand for too long without some eyes on it, with Copper at 3 dollars a lb for scrap, you blink its gone.

I noticed a couple of designs (like this one) where the intakes have pipes on them. Just wondering why? Is the air better higher up (less dust), fear of sparks coming out the bottom or just easier to adjust the valves without bending over?

I got my lid done today , added a handle , and three 3/4 inch holes with plugs in lid for extra exhaust if need be . Also cut my air intake pipes down so top of ball valve is just below top of lid , and cut the exhaust pipe down a little . I started my coal basket not much done on that just got the expanded steel for it . Will add pics tmorrow , didnt have camera with me at work today . This comming sunday , here in South Boston , we have or annual St. Paddys day parade , would like to be cookin on it for that day . Saturday will be the test for this design to see how it works . Thinking of doing a couple whole chickens , and a few slabs of pork ribblets for parade day , with all the sides .

Dats , As for height of air intake pipes , I did for ease of control ( bad back ), less bending .

Its been raining elephants here since saturday night , so I didnt fire up the uds , waiting for a decent day when it will be a lil comfortable to do . Got the coal basket completed the other day , just need to get ash pan and she`ll be ready . Thought it would of been in use for the weekend but wasnt , due to rain . Wil add pics of complete UDS sometime this week .
